What is plastic surgery? Plastic Surgery vs Cosmetic Surgery

Many people think that plastic surgery is called plastic surgery because it comprises the use of artificial things. Well, that not true. Plastic surgery is a medical specialty that corrects aesthetical and functional faults (due to illness, trauma, infection, or tumor) of a person and recreates the facial and body tissue malformations. Plastic surgery rebuilds and enhances appearance as well as functional ability.

Difference between plastic and cosmetic surgery:

Plastic and cosmetic surgeries are closely similar specialties but technically there is a fine difference. Plastic surgery is defined as a surgical specialty devoted to the reconstruction of facial and body defects due to many diseases, trauma, and burn or birth disorders. Plastic surgery is regenerative in nature and it is considered to rectify dysfunctional areas of the body. The goal of plastic surgery is to fix and reconstruct the defects to deliver a natural appearance and restore the normal function of the body part on which the procedure is performed.

Cosmetic surgery is focused on enhancing appearance through surgical and nonsurgical techniques. Cosmetic surgery can be performed on all areas of the face, neck, and body. The aim of cosmetic surgery is to boost the appearance of individuals aesthetically by improving the proportion, symmetry, and aesthetic appeal of a specific part of the body. Cosmetic surgery is elective. Cosmetic surgery is practiced by a variety of medical fields including plastic surgeons.
